Strings Together Practical Tour
Karen takes teachers on a practical tour through her Strings Together book. Participate in the activities then explore the deeper learning potential behind them. Teachers accidentally have more fun than expected as they channel their inner Year 7 and create music and play the games that can be taught to students the very next day!
Kickstart your program with a series of inspiring activities that cater for all group teaching needs. This session follows a holistic and accessible approach to inspire students of all levels.
Explore aural-based activities that encompass elements of composing, arranging, improvisation, technical work and ensemble skills.
In this session, you’ll explore approaches to:
• Develop students’ aural skills and musical intuition
• Reinforce skills with peer-to-peer learning activities
• Facilitate students’ own class compositions
• Use holistic curriculum approaches for instrumental music activities
• Enable leadership opportunities to develop engaged & informed players
Please bring your instruments!
Workshop Sessions with Students
A Piece in a Day
Work with composer Karen Kyriakou to create a new work with your ensemble. Karen facilitates the creative process, but the students make the material. She stitches it all together to make an authentic class-led composition that students will be proud of.
This activity works well in school camps and term 4 post-concert sessions!
(Minimum time for this workshop is 90 minutes).
